House of the Future
Khalia is an innovative residential concept developed for the Buildner House of the Future competition. Designed to respond to the evolving needs of the contemporary Emirati family while remaining rooted in local culture and tradition, the scheme draws inspiration from nature and Middle Eastern architecture. Based on an organic hexagonal living-cell structure, it creates a flexible, modular framework capable of expanding to accommodate changing family needs and site conditions.
Organised around a central garden, the home balances guest, family and private spaces while integrating traditional mashrabiya shading with low-carbon technologies. Khalia proposes a sustainable and adaptable model for future Emirati housing, combining cultural identity with contemporary living.
