Crown Street School

Arkilab, as Education design specialists have been appointed by Renaker Build Ltd, to provide the detail design for the Crown Street 1FE Primary School. Simpson Haugh provided the original concept design and it has been a pleasure to work collaboratively with them.

The School forms part of Phase C of the Crown Street Phase 2 Development and the site forms part of the Great Jackson Street regeneration area situated between Silvercroft Street, Crown Street and the Mancunian Way, and is flanked by the stunning residential towers of Elizabeth Tower and The Blade.

The proposed development incorporates a 1FE primary School with 26FTE Nursery places and an additional provision of a Private Daycare for 25 children ages 2-5, and the concept of a 4 storey ‘vertical school’ is relatively unique for a 1FE primary school but is dictated by the constraints of the site. To achieve the required spatial requirements there is an arrangement of hierarchy applied to the vertical adjacencies of the year groups, from early years though KS1 and KS2 upto the rooftop playdeck with views out over the landscaped park.
