Shireland CBSO Academy

Working alongside Gleeds Advisory Ltd with the Department for Education in collaboration with Galliford Try and ADP Architecture we are extremely proud to have played our part in providing a new home for Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust’s City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Academy.

Shireland CBSO Academy is the first school in Britain to be partnered with a professional orchestra providing high quality musical education to 870 students, age 11 to 18.

The new school is based at 1 Providence Place in West Bromwich, in a repurposed and refurbished existing office block, with a new build school sports hall and sports court on the nearby site at Sandwell Road.

Arkilab undertook the feasibility study for both the above sites to develop a control option for the main contractor and their design team.  We provided design/technical advice for compliance with the DfE’s output specification throughout the life of the project, for facilities that amongst others include a 300 seat performance hall and specialist music and practice rooms, making sure that the specialism of the school in providing excellent music education will thrive in their new fit for purpose building.
