All members of the Arkilab team have specialist experience of working in the Education Sector, through the design and advisory of several schools under the DfE’s Free School, Priority (PSB), and Rebuilding (SRP) Programmes often working in partnership with leading offsite manufacturers, for design and detailing of school projects ranging in value from £1million to £25million, from Primary through Secondary to Further Education Colleges, within Mainstream and SEND settings.
We also work extensively as Design Technical Advisors on Education projects with Gleeds Advisory Services for the DfE TAS21 Framework, providing services to the North (North, East Midlands and Humber, West Midlands, Lancashire and West Yorkshire) guiding design and construction advice in partnership with Gleeds on circa 20 schools projects to date.
Most recently, the team were previously involved with the delivery of a 900 place Secondary Free School in Surrey, circa 6,800sqm with a value of £23m, as a pathfinder for low zero carbon technologies and biophilic design principles. Set in the greenbelt, this project involves presenting a very special circumstances case to the Planning Authority to minimise its impact on the greenbelt, along with local highways issues, and impact on local amenity of neighbouring residential properties.
The team also have vast experience within the Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) specialism and Alternative Provision through design and construction to Technical Advisory roles, across all settings including Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) settings to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) we are able to understand and interpret a Client’s needs in these complex environments.
We are also engaged with Gleeds Management Services on the delivery of several new SEND places across new, extended and refurbished schools within Wakefield Council.
